The Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) is generally an area for experienced occupational and physical therapists who have a strong clinical background in acute care coupled with ICU training.
Occupational and physical therapists work closely with trauma, surgical and critical care teams to provide services to the most critically ill patients in the hospital. Patient care is monitored very closely, and team collaboration is extensive. Patients served have varied diagnoses across many services. Rehab focus in the SICU is on range of motion, positioning, mobility, activity tolerance and patient and family education.
